Prickly Pear Proven To Reduce Body Fat
The natural world is an abundant resource of medicinal and health substances – ever since the dawn of time, man has used organic matter to supplement , heal and cure.
Science is often instigated and derived from nature. None more so than the science of weight loss.
The Optuntia Ficus India Cactus is a cactus (more commonly known as the Prickly Pear) – it has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years by ancient civilizations dating back to the time of the Aztecs.
Throughout history, the Prickly Pear has been used to form the basis of a multitude of natural medicines. Today, its two more common uses are to stop the absorption of fat from food consumed via a fat binding process and to treat the aftermath of hangovers.
Prickly Pear For Fat Reduction
Although the Prickly Pear has co-existed with man for millenniums is only relatively recently that its fat binding properties have been realised and targeted towards weight loss.
The slimming, weight loss and diet product industry is awash with products that claim naturality but closer inspection reveals that many ingredients have been synthetically altered.
This was highlighted in a recent Daily Express article.
Daily Express health editor Jo Wiley’s piece entitled “Prickly Pear Is Key In Battle Against Obesity” described how one UK focused natural diet pill manufacturer, Proactol had introduced a commercial product into the market in 2005 and built a solid reputation while trying underplay its role in the worlds obesity pandemic.
Proactol product manager Katie Downing-Howitt said: “We aren’t suggesting that Proactol is a miracle treatment for obesity but it is clinically proven to bind with fat and, as part of a balanced healthy lifestyle, does assist weight loss.”
Proactol can stop the absorption of around a quarter of dietary fat from food consumed. After the tablet is swallowed it allows the body to expel around 25 per cent more fat – meaning the body absorbs less fat from food.
Proactol is medically approved weight loss product and is classed as Medical Device Type 1 – but available to buy direct without the need of a prescription. More about Proactol
Prickly Pear and Hangovers
The first controlled clinical study connecting the Prickly Pear and health benefits was centred around a possible cure for the after effects of consuming too much alcohol (hangovers).
Studies have shown that taking extracts of the Optuntia Ficus India Cactus can greatly reduce the symptoms of excessive alcohol consumption (dry mouth, headache, sickness and fatigue)
Several independent trails have confirmed that hangover sufferers who take the substance are far more likely to recover quicker than those who don’t
The best hangover cure is obvioulsy prevention via abstinence but for those who cannot resist temptation there is always the prickly pear – you may also lose a lbs into the bargain.
