Hoodia And The BBC

Hoodia And The BBC

Hoodia arrived in the UK in the spring of 2003. Hoodia’s profile and public awareness were raised significantly after BBC correspondent Tom Mangold published a report detailing the history of the San Tribesman of the Kalahari and their relationship with Hoodia Gordonii from both a physical and economic perspective.

The headline that hit home the potential of this plant for the western world was “an organic plant that reduces appetite and tackles obesity.” This message seemed to spiral across the world and firmly promoted Hoodia Gordonii to status of number 1 slimming aid and the most popular and frequently discussed diet pill.

Hoodia Gordonii slimming aids were very much in demand. It remains undisputed that purest Hoodia Gordonni is the most potent natural sliming aid. Hoodia facts here

The BBC article also highlighted the San Bushmens’ potential rise from impoverished tribesman to millionaires. Sadly though it seems that the new found wealth has bypassed the natives as giant corporations such as Pfizer have taken a keen interest and content with squeezing the “Hoodia” name and concept to its very limits.

At the time of the original BBC article, Hoodia Gordonii and the p57 molecule were still very much in the development stage as far as releasing for commercial use. Phrases such as “can Hoodia  cure obesity” and “eat what you want and lose weight” were being as used by manufacturers to head up slimming campaigns.

Today the proliferation of Hoodia branded products on the open market seem to dilute the message and the effectiveness of Hoodia as a slimming aid. With so much choice and variation of pricing it is hard to decypher the profit driven product from the beneficial.

It is estimated that 80% of Hoodia branded diet products available on the open market are either diluted, synthetic or do contain any trace Hoodia - the many have tainted the few.

At the time of writing - did the BBC’s Tom Mangold fully appreciate the importance of his article and the  subsequent frenzy that followed. Could Tom Mangold be responsible, indirectly or otherwise for helping countless people to lose weight and potentially save their life.

Since the original article Tom Mangold has appeared in the media many times to underline the fact that not all Hoodia products are the same.
